In 1929 at the age of 46, Noah Rondeau, who was not happy with the world and it's trends, began to live year-round, alone, at Cold River as a hermit.
He would sometimes come out of the woods for supplies, or if it was a holiday. He built two cabins and covered them with tar paper and canvas. He
also had six or seven wigwams that he used for summer living and to store firewood. He hunted, fished and trapped. Though he had limited
schooling, he loved to read. His camp had over sixty books in it. He also loved to play the violin.

One of his cabins can be seen today at the Adirondack Museum,
in Blue Mountian Lake NY.
