| Melt and pour is a great way to start the hobby of soap making! There are some people that say it isn't really "making soap", when you use melt and pour. I have heard people say because you aren't mixing the oils and lye yourself, that it can't be considered home made soap. The one thing to remember is, ALL SOAP IS MADE WITH LYE!!! You can't have soap without it!! Melt and pour is just cutting out all the mess of working with lye! I have used melt and pour for many years, and sold it at times also. You still get to do different colorings and scents and you can add herbs and spices to melt and pour also. The main thing is to be sure you are working with a "Good Quality" soap base!! I am adding a couple links at the bottom of this page for suppliers that have a great soap base!! I will also add some photos of my melt and pour soaps. I don't do a lot of fancy soaps, but they are enriched with things like goat milk powder, French green clay and red clay!! The possibilities are endless!! So basically, you get a good quality soap base. Cut it into small chunks, and put some in a microwave save container, ( I use a Pyrex measuring cup). You then add your scent, coloring and additives once the soap has melted. Pour it in a mold, and after about two hours, you have a beautiful soap ready to use!! Perfect for gift giving for any occasion!! So, if you are thinking of making soap, melt and pour is a great start!! You will learn the art of mixing scents, using natural coloring and the best part is, you can use the soap right away!! There is no curing time involved! PLUS...It is safe to have your kids help you!! The base can be melted in the microwave!! So get some melt and pour and have fun!! This is a great family activity to make Christmas gifts for the holidays!!! |

| Here is a photo of my latest soaps made from a melt and pour soap base. They all have tea tree oil in them. I left one natural white, the other two were colored with green oxide. One darker than the other, I stirred in a little extra oxide to make the texture on the top of the bars. They were ready to come out of the mold with in two hours, and are ready to use right away!! The mold I used give you a soap that looks like an old fashioned farmers bar of soap. |
